What is the design process to create my illustrated stationery?

Our stationery products are one of a kind works of art and are created by hand by a professional illustrator.

After you place an order, we will contact you to discuss your ideas and overall feel of your project. We will then take all of your information and compact it into rough drafts. Once you see the sketches, we are happy to hear your suggestions regarding accuracy, composition, illustrations, color and layout-- all of those things we learned in art school. We work with you to create as many sketches as you need to make it perfect.

In the meantime, we will put together some paper samples for you to choose from based on your specific needs.

Once all of the revisions are made, the final artwork is created. There are, however, additional fees for any changes to the final artwork. The files are then shipped to the printer.

When the goods are finished, they are shipped back to the studio where the artist adds the colors of your choice. If you decide that you don’t want hand painted pieces, the order is then shipped to you. We hope you will love your stationery as much as we do!

What does the design fee include?

The design fee includes the illustrated design of the stationery. It also includes all of the proofs as well as one color hand painting after the stationery is printed (up to 200 pieces) if your stationery is printed with us. If you will be printing the images elsewhere, there are additional charges for color and digital files.

The design fee does not include additional hand painted colors, applicable sales tax in Ohio or shipping.

How long does it take to design?

Depending on our schedule and the complexity of your project, the turnaround for invitations suites are about 8-10 weeks.

Our timing breakdown is as follows

4-6 weeks for the design process.  This is sketch phase to final artwork.
2-3 weeks additional for offset printing
4 weeks additional for letterpress printing
A day or two to add the hand painted color

Additional time is required for tri fold designs, special services such as tying ribbons and envelope liners and don’t forget to include additional days for shipping into your timeframe.

For large quantities, rush orders and special projects, please inquire with us regarding the timing.

Will I see proofs?

Of course! You will see all of the drawings in the sketch phase and approve the final artwork before it is shipped to the printer. All proofs in the sketch phase are included in the price.

I love your illustrated maps! Can you send me some more information?

Thank you!  We love creating them! We’ve dedicated a whole site to our Couture Maps that contains a lot of information about our collection and the design process. If there is anything you’d like to know, drop us a note.

What lettering styles do you offer?

At our studio, lettering is an art form. Our calligraphy styles have been meticulously designed by us and can be seen here. We are always coming up with new and unique letter forms so check back often.

We are proud of our original work so we don’t use traditional calligraphy hands or copy any style. This will insure you are receiving a one of a kind work of art. We are also happy to create a new alphabet just for you!

Do you offer envelope addressing and place card calligraphy?

We offer hand hand lettered illustrated envelopes and place cards on a limited basis. Feel free to contact us to inquire.

Can I use artwork that you have already created?

Sure! This is a great way to save if you are on a tight budget. Since the design is already finished, pricing is a bit different. Please inquire with us regarding your details.

Do you collaborate with other designers?

We love to collaborate with other industry experts! We are passionate about creating unique designs with a fresh perspective and enjoy the challenge of working with other talented innovators in our industry.

Can I use images on your website for my own personal use?

Please do not use any of our images, lettering, illustrations, product photographs, writings or trademarks or confusingly similar works for personal or commercial use. We are although skilled at creating artwork just for you!

Can I feature your products on my blog?

We are always delighted to be featured online! Please let us know if we can provide you with any photographs of our products and make sure you tell us when you plan to post so we can gush over it! And as always, please include a credit line to our studio.

I’ve seen very similar work to yours. What is going on?

Our work has been so popular that we’ve discovered products similar to ours made by someone in the industry using our tradename, trademark and is copying our ideas, illustrations, lettering styles, website content—even copying this Q and A page!

We are doing everything in our power to stop this, and if you are also outraged by these unethical practices, please do your part and don’t support these businesses that violate intellectual copyright laws and continue to offer products and content that isn’t theirs. Thank you so much!
